01What an AI SEO tracking tool is and how it works
An AI SEO tracking tool shows you where your brand ranks and gets cited inside AI search engines. In this episode, Julian Goldie tests one called RadarKit, which tracks your visibility across many platforms in one place.
You add the prompts you want to rank for. The tool then checks them every day and shows your position, your visibility score and your visibility rank. Julian calls this tracking for GEO, AEO, SEO or AI SEO, whatever name you prefer.
One example prompt in the episode is "best AI community for agency owners." It is a very long tail prompt. Not thousands of people search for it, but the tool recommended it, so Julian tested it.
- It shows your average position for each prompt.
- It shows which web searches were performed.
- It shows which responses triggered a search across all models.
Julian says he is still learning the tool, because it has many features.
02Main features of this AI SEO tracking tool
RadarKit packs a lot into one dashboard. Julian only touches the surface in this episode, but several features stand out.
- Platform presence: it breaks results down by Perplexity, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, AI Mode and Google AI Overview.
- Citation tracking: it shows whether each platform cites you or not.
- Sentiment: it shows whether the mention of your brand is positive.
- Position: it shows where you are listed in the answer.
- All time rankings: you can review these as more citation data comes in.
- Content type distribution: it shows which kinds of pages get cited most.
There is also Page Radar. It lets you track the pages that win you citations. Once you add pages, it gives a tracked pages citation score and shows which pages are cited the most.
Local businesses can use a local radar system too. You can also set up a separate project for each site, such as a client site or another website of your own.
03How to get started with AI SEO tracking
Julian walks through his own setup in this episode. Here is the basic flow based on what he shows.
- Sign up for the tool. Julian is using RadarKit.
- Add the prompts you want to rank for. He added a couple of extra keywords when he signed up.
- Wait about 24 hours. The tool checks daily, so new prompts take until the next day to show data.
- Open each prompt to see your visibility score, rank and results.
- Check your presence on each platform and whether each one cites you.
- Open the citation data to see which content types and pages win.
- Add a separate project for each extra site you want to track.
- Add pages to Page Radar to track which pages win citations.
Julian notes he is new to the tool. Expect to spend some time exploring it.
04How to use AI SEO tracking data on a real prompt
Julian uses the prompt "best AI community for agency owners" to show how to read the data. The results page breaks down each response and shows whether each platform cites him.
For this prompt, the platforms differ a lot. Gemini, AI Mode, AI Overview and ChatGPT cite him. Copilot and Perplexity do not.
Julian explains that each platform has different algorithms and finds and cites information in different ways.
The tool shows he is listed on four out of six platforms. It also shows his position and that the sentiment is positive.
- Community and forum pages: Reddit is cited five times and holds 5% of the share. His own subreddit shows up, and a comment on it ranks even though he is not targeting that keyword.
- Listicles: a page called "10 best AI communities to join" is a listicle. Google AI Overview ranks him number one for the keyword, and the listicle lists his top three communities.
- Own websites: three of his websites rank for the keyword.
05Reverse engineering content types from citation data
The citation data shows the share of each content type. Julian says you can reverse engineer this. You see which sources get the most reach, then create content of those types on many platforms, not just one website.
For this prompt, the split looks like this:
- Forums hold the number one share.
- Collection pages hold the number three share.
- Social media holds the number four share, at 6.9%.
Two of these types are not even built for websites. So if you think AI SEO is only content on your own site, the data says otherwise.
You also need some judgment. A "community forum" result might be a platform like Skool, where you want to send traffic and do not need new pages. But a Reddit citation tells you to post on Reddit.
Listicles tell you to write list posts.
Julian says creating the content is the easy part. Knowing which type to create is the harder part, and the tool answers it.
06Why you can't just check ChatGPT yourself
Julian explains that checking your ranking directly inside ChatGPT gives biased results. ChatGPT knows who you are. If you ask who the best AI community is, it will name you, because that is the answer most personalized to you.
He compares it to using incognito mode in Chrome. You need something that tracks your rankings without that bias. A dedicated tool does this.
He also says he has tried Ahrefs and SEMrush, and they do not give him the data he needs for this.
- Personal chats are biased toward you.
- A tracking tool checks daily and neutrally.
- You get a view across all platforms, not just one.
07Tips, limits and mistakes to avoid
Julian shares several lessons from using the tool and from his own strategy.
- Do not rely on one site. He recommends more than one website. It trains the AI, protects you if one site goes down, and gives you more power across platforms.
- Post on other platforms. Target keywords on Reddit, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. If you do not, competitors will, and they may be using AI agents to automate it.
- Create many content types. Forums, listicles, collection pages and social media all matter.
- Keep doing traditional SEO. It still works, but you need content in many places now.
- Be patient with new prompts. They take about 24 hours to update.
One limit: Julian admits he is still learning the tool and only shows a small example. He plans to test more tools like it.
He also notes an Agent Mode section with an outreach agent for link building, a content agent, a Reddit agent and a chat agent. He has not tried them yet.
08Who AI SEO tracking is for and why it matters
This kind of tracking is for anyone who wants AI search engines to recommend their brand. That includes agency owners, local businesses and people with several sites or client sites.
Julian's point is that the game is changing. You need to rank everywhere now, in AI search and in traditional search. Being active on many platforms trains the AI on who you are, what you do and why you are the best.
He offers two ways to go further:
- A free AI audit at JulianGoldie.com, which shows where you rank, how you perform and what you rank for. It includes a custom plan for ranking inside AI and traditional search.
- The AI Profit Boardroom community, with an AI SEO automation section, AI SEO workflows and case studies. It has 3,300 members, weekly training and personal help.
